I was up until late last night finishing off ‘Chasing Francis’ by Ian Morgan Cron. This book unded up on my 2008 (newly updated) reading list after a number of people have been raving about it. I really enjoyed it as it is written in the same form as Brian McLaren’s ‘A New Kind of Christian’ Trilogy. The book basically charts a pastor’s journey of disillusionment with church and his re-thinking of the message of Jesus through a pilgrimage in Italy using St Francis of Assisi as a base for this. Although the mix of fiction and teaching about Francis in a journal form can be a clunky at times I was stil hooked on the characters as they developed. I was left at the end with that annoying feeling of but I want to know what happens next but that is for the imagination to ponder.
