Passing On

17 Aug

After a long battle with cancer my friend Marc Ward passed away this evening leaving his wife rachel and 12 week old son Ben. I don’t know what to think or do but i thought that this might just help me remember him. After first meeting in my gap year in Custom House we became reaquainted upon my return there a few years later. This was just after he had been taken ill with a brain tumour and he and Rachel started to come along to Ascension where i was at the time. I was blessed to share in the lives of such a down to earth yet godly couple. Marc had a great way of telling things exactly as he saw them, no front or bull. We spent many hours talking and listening to music (his major passion). I was privilaged to be aloud to hear many of his songs that were ‘works in progress’ and then hear them again as they were given the final touches. He was an amazing talent and his songs deserve to be heard by so many more. In short Marc’s courage and devotion to Rachel were an inspiration to me as was the way he clung onto God in all the chaos that surrounded.

I finished reading C.S Lewis’ ‘The Final Battle’ today and the last few pages come to mind at this time,

“The term is over: the holidays have begun. The dream is ended: this is the morning.

And as He spoke He no longer looked to them like a lion; but the things that begun to happen after that were so great and beautiful that i cannot write them. And for us this is the end of all the stories, and we can most truly say that they all lived happily ever after. But for them it was only the beginning of the real story. All their life in this world and all their adventures in Narnia had only been a cover and the title page: now at last they were beginning Chapter One of the Great Story which no one on earth has read: which goes on forever: in which every chapter in better than the one before.”

So to a beloved friend i say goodbye to for the time being, see you again when the time comes. See you in eternity when we’ll meet again and enjoy chapter 1.
