Let God Grow 1 – Journey

Yesterday saw the start of our Easter Let God Grow Course. We took a small group of young people who have signed up for the course on the first leg of the mystery tour. As we travelled to the unknown destination there were plenty of wild guesses about where we would end up.

Our venue to kick off the course was South Mimms service station on the M25. As we pulled up you could hear the collecting sense of ‘why!’ The theme was ‘Journey’ and we sat and had a drink and discussion as people drove in and out as they continued upon their journeys. Our text for the day unsurprisingly was the Triumphal Entry (which I preached on in the morning). We thought about a number of questions.

How would Jesus have been feeling as he journeyed from Jericho to Jerusalem?

How would the disciples have been feeling?

How would the crowds have been feeling?

We spend some time reflecting upon our own journeys with God and where we are. We identified that there are lots of different elements to a journey and how these could be compared to our spiritual journey. These included: starting out, re-fuelling, resting, are we nearly there yet, rushing, traffic jam, nearing the end.

I gave out toy cars while we were there to remind people of the experience. I’m looking forward to todays venue and will blog about it later.

Sounds like you’re having a great time doing this. Thanks so much for sharing the idea with me – we’re running it too at the moment and it’s already proving to be a powerful experience together. I’ll watch with interest some of the conversations and questions and experiences that you have and how many of them we share!
